The skies are clouded over looks like rain - it so very mild! The dogs are playing, racing around the yard - they enjoy the lack of hot sun. The Duchess litter are doing well - they have been emptied out of worms
Now the food they eat will feed them so they can grow! I must have cleaned their paper a hundred times yesterday. I really don't know how they survived with that load of worms they were carrying. Puppies are very resilient. Duchess already looks more rounded - she was dehydrated when she first arrived. I filled their water bowl over and over again trying to keep her thirst abated. She enjoys her freedom away from the pups although she doesn't go far from them. The pups of course are not pleased with her leaving! and they sure can eat!! The dish has been replenished several times in the two days since their arrival - they have eaten one bag already! Duchess has also eaten 6 cans of holistic canned food as well. Her eyes are brighter and she is very thankful - she comes and lays her head on my knee and gazes at me with those expressive golden eyes. Some very lucky person will have a loyal devoted companion when he adopts Duchess. She is worth it!

Happy Anniversary to Dave and Dixie my second son and his wife! I remembered the right day!
This has been a very busy morning! The duchess family has been moved to their roomier quarters, they have all had wormer and Duchess was shown the short side so she can have a life without the puppies! She is housebroken! She is a very gentle, trusting old soul in a young ravaged body. she came over and put her head on my knee looking at me wiht those beautiful eyes of hers - thanking me for helping her. I talked to one of my friends who felt I should have said “NO”. Maybe if Linda had just called maybe I could have. But Linda knows me well. We have been working together for years. She knew if I saw her face - I wouldn't turn her away. There is room for her and her pups - they have a very nice 8 foot by 6 foot enclosure. They have puppy food - Linda brought a bag and I had a 16 kg bag donated that afternoon - Fate? Sure puppies a lot of work, cleaning and feeding alone take a lot of time. These guys are just getting their milk teeth so are barely 5 weeks old. They can eat solid food but are nursing still - a lot. Duchess needs good nutrition so I have been giving her canned Holistic food too - Thank you Susan - these special guys needed this boost.
They will be with me for another 3 weeks before they can go to new families. They will all be vaccinated at just over 7 weeks and vet checked. Duchess will be spayed once thye are weaned and her teats go back up - usually when the pups reach 10 weeks of age. Reuben is doing well - he was wormed today too. He is such a sweet, small guy. He will be an awesome comapnion for a lucky family. The rest of the group are doing very well. Max and Ivan are healing well and growing like bad weeds
They are active, good natured little guys. Pixie is still cute as button and wants to be held. What a sweetheart. The littlest pound girl is doing much better today - she wants to be held too. these guys crave attention and loving. And know how to get it. I always have a dog in my lap when I sit down or a head on my knee. My hand is always reaching for the head that bumps my leg when I walk with my group - I feel like the Pied Piper - surroundered by dogs everywhere I go. So how could I have said “NO”?

The new littlest girl had a tough night
She cried, shook and was cold. Finally I gave her pain medication that our vet sent with her and she quieted. This morning when I checked on her I could see she felt much better - she had eaten her quarter can of holistic ocean fish with her antibiotic in it. The door to her crate is open but she won't come out yet. She wags her tail at me and likes to be petted and oh yes she did potty #2. She is on the road to recovery and hopefully soon a loving family. The little mini-pittie is a swetheart! She is affectionate, and oh so loving. She is sitting at my feet waiting for my hand to reach out and touch her. Then she wiggles in ecstacy. What a treasure for a lucky family. She ate her half can of holistic ocean fish as well. Thank you Susan for donating this special food for my needy guys.
Little bear the little black dog has fit in wonderfully. He is housebroken, slept quietly all night on a bed in the common room and was ready for play as soon as the front door opened. He has excellent doggie social skills yet has very good people social skills too. He will be an ideal family companion. All is well at Turtle gardens for another day. Now to find my coffee!!
