Turtle Gardens has VIP Thank You’s

Filed under: THANK YOU PAGE — yvette @ 3:55 pm

Christmas giving lends a lot of thanks you’s to the donors. I am very slow at sending thanks you’s in the mail. It is a chore to me although I appreciate the gift so very much. This blog lets me thank people fast!!
And thank people that give anonymously. So let us start with the tires. Wendy, Charlie and Little Sally (adopted from TG) have donated two good brand new snow tires for the back of the van installed on the next TG Bus Run from Tom the Tire Man in Surrey. Sharon has gotten a real deal for 4 new tires from the Burns Lake Kal Tire - which we will have two new tires  installed on the front before the TG Bus run  - donations that have come into canadahelps this past few days will more than cover them.

David my #2 son sent an email to his co-workers at Sophos and the response has been FANTASTIC!! as of this morning $846 Isn’t that just so cool! One my most important Wishes has come true - safe roads for the TG BUS!

Today is Sharon Hann’s BIRTHDAY!! Happy 29th from all of us at Turtle Gardens. She and Simon and Kip (from TG) and Chloe the princess pug are hosting an OPEN HOUSE today to celebrate. No gifts for Sharon instead she has asked for donations to Turtle gardens - how very nice is that??

Dave arrived home yesterday from PG with the two pound  pups from Burns Lake - a white/black pitbull and a spayed black lab. He also came home bearing gifts from our veterinary clinic’s staff. Thank you Buck and Dorothy Stratton (they have 2 TG dogs) for giving our crew 4 bags of premium dogs food. Thank you Angie and Bill - 5 gift certificates from KFC - you remember how much I enjoyed your visits and the chicken!! Thankyou to the staff for the 3 - $100 gift certificates for groceries for the people of Turtle Gardens!! And the $50 bill for gas for the next TG Bus Run!! And another 6 bags of premium dog food. Thank you so very much  - we and the dogs appreciate it so very very much.

And then today Lorna arrived bearing more gifts for Turtle Gardens from Smithers! There was food hampers (for Dave and I) from Bruce and Margaret and Lorna as well as 6 bags of dog food. Lorna and Joanne Maxwell donated an entire pallet of dog food!! Jan MacKay and her daughter Heather sent TG a cheque for $100 and a Merry Christmas. Tonya sent a large assortment of  greenies/gravy/chews and canned food to my TG crew. They will love it all! Ms Heatherington from the Town office sent a big bag of Nutro and  more treats to my homeless dogs who will enjoy all th etreats over th eholidays.

And a big thank you to all my supporter throuhgout the year. New to You who send us blankets/towels/bedding for all the crates/beds/doggie couches. The Bulkley Valley Hospital who send sheets/towels/baby milk/baby water that is slightly outdated but still very good for weaker puppies. The Smithers Feed Store who has set up a food drop off depot for Turtle Gardens. The Peak Radio for advertising Turtle Gardens and our blog - you are awesome!! And the anonymous donors of dog food all year long! Thank you.

And an especially big Thank you to Wayne Couture and Jean Davis for your large cash donation each year. They have also adopted 3 Turtle Gardens dogs over the years! And the Southside Women’s Institute who had a raffle and donated half of the proceeds to our Low Cost Spay Neuter Fund - $481. And the BC Hydro - Hydrecs Fund who donated $1000 to our Low Cost Spay Neuter Fund. THANK YOU.

And our biggest supporters without who we COULD NOT operate Turtle Gardens as successfully/efficiently or as well - our veterinarians - Lois Martin and Caroline Kye of Burns Lake and Brian Rieve and Callie Lancaster of Bulkley Valley.

And to all the individuals and families who have adopted a wonderful companion from Turtle Gardens over the past 20 years we THANK YOU for giving these dogs a second chance at life. Please keep the pictures and emails coming - YOU make my day and give the oomph to keep going. Adoptions are the rhyme and reason of Turtle Gardens.

And the very biggest THANK YOU is to my two sons who created this site so we could be the best that we can be!!  www.redneckmedia.net/

Turtle Gardens Puppies - pictures

Filed under: Uncategorized — yvette @ 1:34 pm

Tis the season to be jolly - HO Ho Ho. No I am not being a grInch but here is a picture of our little Girl Grinch - her name was suggested by Sharon so here is little Grinch - a lab/chow mix puppy! Please take me home!!

And here is lovely Lou another black pup - she is a dobie/lab mix almost 5 months old now. Both of her brothers were black and tan and have been adopted but Lou is pure black!
Sitting on top of the doghouse!

Little Gittan is the last of her litter as well. But her brothers were blonde! She has unique brindle markings on her legs and neck/chin with the biggest round soft brown eyes. She is very smart, gentle and friendly. a treasure for sure!
Alert, solid - a great family pet.

Little Merry as in Merry Christmas arrived last week with a blonde male puppy who found his family the *next day - they were waiting for a male puppy to arrive. Their eldery female German Shepherd did not get along with other females so a male it had to be. Lucky boy was adopted quickly and has settled in perfectly. Now Merry is waiting for her family, she is a very bright, friendly good natured social butterfly! She is beautiful inside as well as out - what a "catch". Who could "throw away" such a nice pup!
I broke a bag of food carrying it - it won’t  be wasted!

Here is Ruby Red the little girl found on lying on the side of the highway - she had a cracked femur and pelvis. Two weeks of crate rest and she is walking well. Because she was almost healed when found - her leg healed as is. She will be spayed before adoption - no puppies for this girl! She appears to be a lab/golden mix about 4.5 months old.
She has a very forgiving nature - a sweet, sweet girl.

And finally dear little Frankie who will be neutered January 4th - he has been here two months already - he is a black dog after all and an awkward size - too big to be small and too small to be big. He has a wonderful temperament - playful, fun and very cuddly. An ideal family pet.
Frankie playing all by himself!!

Have a very Merry Christmas - have your dog send his friends his own card at sheltercards.com/
So easy your dog can send it!!

Updated the Image Gallery Layout

Filed under: Uncategorized — davidl @ 12:01 pm

It’s me the sysadmin/son again.  I’ve done a bit of work on the image gallery to make it more user friendly.  There are an amazing amount of pictures in the gallery but the format was a bit, shall I say, off.  I’ve fixed that now and it’s easier to view and browse them now.  If you haven’t had a chance to view the gallery then I’d like to invite you to do so now.  Just click here to view it now.

It’s amazing how many pets and happy families Turtle Gardens has brought together over the years.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Puppies bring joy back to Turtle Gardens

Filed under: Uncategorized — blog @ 11:36 am

I slept in this morning and was awakened by small whines from the side of the bed. There sat Merry the little german shepherd mix puppy, Joy the little black lab/chow mix, Gittan and Lou - bigger black pups - don’t pups come in any other colours around here? Their little faces were peeking sadly from the edge of the bed - "Are you getting up yet? We want to go outside and play!" I made the mistake of chuckling - they started yipping and yapping with glee. I shoulda stayed quiet until I got my glasses and slippers on. Have you ever tried to put slippers on with wriggling bodies so happy to see you? As I stood up they all raced through the doorway, down the hall to the kitchen and out to the front room door. They were all waiting there for the door to open. I went out to watch them run outside helter skelter in every direction - so very happy to be outside. The sun is trying to shine for a while anyways and I smile as I watch the puppies play. And my guys all looking for their "spot". It is a glorious day in the neighbourhood.

David had another flat tire when he got out to the TG Bus yesterday.

He tried to get the tire fixed again but it was too far gone and had to be put down humanely. He bought a new to him tire and was on his way again. He has taken two dogs to their new homes in Prince George. Misty the rottie who was spayed just a few days ago and our big old Tuk - he is only 8 months old but weighs over 100 pounds!! (He has a new home in Quesnel - he is very reserved and is obviously a one family dog - like most guardian dogs - he may look like a neuf but he isn’t at all like one) The weather window is only open 2 days so he can’t make the big trip down to Surrey. It looks like the rest will be spending Christmas with us instead of their new families. Dave will try after Christmas holidays once the weather clears up. My kitchen window! The grinch is where it belongs - gone!

A scare at Turtle Gardens

Filed under: Uncategorized — yvette @ 12:45 pm

Dave and I were sitting at the table enjoying our very excellent swiss steak that Dave prepared from scratch when we noticed “Chuck” wasn’t around. “When did you see him last?”  I asked Dave. He had to think a minute and said “He was with me this afternoon when I did the wood.” I realized I saw him that morning when I was talking to Debra on the phone. So Dave checked the house in all the hidey-holes then outside. No “Chuck”. I don’t do dark - one of my only phobias and yes we are fenced in like Fort Knox and yes there a big dogs that live here who would eat strangers but I still won’t/can’t venture outside after dark. I called Sweetpea and took a small flashlight - thank you Wendy - it is still working!! and yes I went out to look for “Chuck”.  No Chuck. All night Dave and I took turns looking for him to no avail. It was a very long night. When Dave was up for good this morning and filled up the wood stove, he opened the back door for the demodex dogs - Moses and Sampson rarely go out the front yet tho Sampson is gaining more confidence -  THERE WAS “CHUCK”  I heard Dave say “Where were you Chuck?” and bounced out of bed to see for myself. He was fine - no injuries and he was warm. Where had he been? The only strange vehicle had been a big red, new crew cab. Did Chuck go for a ride? and then found his way back? He has never been out of the fence - did he get out, get lost and find his way back? What happened to “Chuck”? We will never really know as the only one who can tell us doesn’t speak our language. All we do know is that Chuck is safe, tired - he is sleeping near the woodstove, hungry - he really chowed down and warm.
Here is little “Chuck” our mystery pup.

On the plus side - Drummer the little pup featured yesterday has been adopted by a family with 3 kids and an old german shepherd who will show him the “ropes”. He is a really, really nice, gentle, soft puppy. Good luck little Drummer Boy!

WISH LIST:
Everybody has one and Turtle Gardens is no different.

1. a snowblower - so we can remove the snow all around the perimeter of the fence - dogs can walk over it in some places and it fills up as soon as we shovel it!!!!

2. Good tires for the TG Bus - so it will be easier to drive in snow/ice and bad weather

3. Our vet bill lowered to a decent level - Thank you Burns Lake Veterinary Clinic for supporting all our spays and neuters, and medical dogs as well as regular vaccinations etc

4. Our Low Cost Spay/Neuter Voucher Program got a big boost from BC Hydro’s Hydrecs Fund with their donation of $1000 but with all the dogs/cats in need  more is needed to reach our goal/2020 vision of all pets that need/want it are speutered by 2020

5. And a Merry Christmas and a Joyous Happy New Year!
