i remember the day when our kids were young and wanted a dog, we went to the spca and my daughter just HAD to have this collie mix, she had been returned 3 or 4 times, already had a lot of baggage at only 4 mo. of age, but i can tell you that my son and daughter grew up with this dog, she was going to be put down the following week had we not adopted her, their lives were richer for it, they even travelled many miles, as did many relatives, to see her just before the new year in order to put her down due to bone cancer, this dog changed all of their lives, she may not have been perfect, she did not pass obedience with flying colors, she was difficult , but she was a loyal family dog and that is all that mattered to the kids. Now with the house empty i have rescued two very different dogs, not intentionally , instinct brought them, keep an open mind and do a lot of research on breeds, personality of your household, your lifestyle, if you are patient and thought it through a lot it will work out, all the best to you and your family, I have never known a life without a dog, as I was born into a household with one, they have all been wonderful, but different, of course there is one that will always stand out and be your favorite, we are the richer for that.
