Turtle Gardens welcomes Jetta and Shama

Filed under: Uncategorized — yvette @ 9:40 am

Just before Dave left with the TG Bus Ryan called to report a stray dog under his house. She had been there 3 or 4 days. He finally lured her out with leftover chinese food. A pup followed her out too! Dave told him to bring them in and we would take care of them.  They were scared, skinny and black.  I waved goodbye to Dave, Bear and the TG Bus holding the leash and velvety soft lab pup. In an hour they had settled in quite well. I checked my list of names that my friends sent me and chose Jetta for mom and Shama for her daughter. Jetta appears to be a golden retriever/lab mix with a beautiful, soft temperament. To the heartless person who dumped her I say this "Shame on you. What goes around comes around" Shama will have perky ears so her dad may have been a collie - hard to tell as she is only about 12 weeks old but she has a lab tail. Her coat is very soft, short  and she has white on her toes and chest. She is very cute.
. Jetta looking at Eric the Red - the crimson rosella! Shama at her feet.

As soon as Dave gets back both will visit our veterinarians and they will be ready for responsible families.

Happy Endings from yesterday!!

Hi Yvette

Picked up Oola.

It went well, she seemed to respond without forcing her.

I had her in the kitchen for about 30 minutes and then put her outside
in a doghouse.  She went in without any fuss and is still inside, about 5 hours.

In the morning we will see if she is hungry.

I’ll walk her a little in the morning and then take her down to the 2 mile dike where dozens of dogs run around. This is where she will meet Axel.

I have attached a picture , hope it isn’t too big for your dialup service.

Hi Yvette

Just wanted to say thanks - Sailor is a doll!
after a warm bath, some food, some playtime and a little walk hes now settled in and sleeping peacefully at my feet as I type
we LOVE him! hes a great cuddler/heater too!

thanks again!

Hi Yvette,

Everything worked out, got the call around 2:30 and picked up the dogs
around 4:00 pm. Been home for an hour or so, all seems fine so far, dogs
have eaten, hopefully will settle down once they’ve explored the house!
Kernel is very inquisitive, Grey Ghost a bit quieter….I don’t think they
know what to think about the cats (and vice versa!).  Kernel is sitting down
nicely by my desk while I type this, Michael has taken Grey Ghost for a walk
round the block.
Take care, will update you later,

Jana

Hi Yvette

I met Snoopy now called Stanley :)  He has the runs and is a little weary from the road trip but what a nice pup!!  They love him and he is on his way to going to his new home to curl up and sleep :)  They adore him.  Thanks for him!!  I think Rick is going to bring him to agility classes to watch and socialize him and I am looking into puppy kindergarten classes as well.

As well I met Miss Molly yesterday and I love her - I think if Cynthia approves I will have her here for the weekend - Chevy (my Pap) and Miss Molly hit is off as I thought they may :)  She is an absolute doll and I think I would be crazy to pass her up :)  Will keep you updated on that as well.

Anyhow thanks again for all you do.. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need home checks etc done here in Langley/Cloverdale.

Thanks!
Tori

Hi Yvette,

Many thanks to you for what you do up there in the hinterland. Captain (or Chilli - his temporary name at the present) appears very happy with his new surroundings. My son, Dexter-Yen is incredibly happy. We have already given him a bath as he was in a bit of a mess after his many hours of road travel. I included a $50.00 donation in my fee as we hope that you continue with your good works up there. Thanks again for our new wee one.

Take Care and we will send pictures to you soon.
Cynthia & Dexter-Yen Lim
(and the rest of the family too)

The TG Bus has arrived !

Filed under: Uncategorized — yvette @ 4:49 pm

Dave and Bear left at 5:30 pm after making sure everything was done here before he left! Enough groceries and wood to last me! Our road was plowed at 11.30 am after Dave had shoveled his van out twice turning it around! He called me from Vanderhoof at 9.45 pm - the roads were treacherous! It was going to be a very lond drive. He reached Quesnel at midnite and met Rob with Samantha. They continued on until they reached Cache Creek to find out the canyon was closed due to a lanslide. So he slept until 7 am. Bear tried but the pups were whining - Drake missed me and our bed I think.  Dave went out and talked to a trucker and was told the Coquihala was full of black ice and not to try it but follow him an dhe would show him the back way! 261 kilometers on a rabbit trail later  Dave was in Boston Bar and he called me to let everyone know he was delayed. The TG Bus arrived somewhere around 1 pm and people were already there to pick up their family members! Will update soon - hopefully with pictures as they come in!

Countdown for the TG Bus

Filed under: Uncategorized — yvette @ 10:17 am

My vocal alarm clock - Cindy - got me up - she was quite in a hurry this morning - to a snowy picture perfect morning. Big fat fluffy snowflakes falling from the sky - over 6 inches already!!! As I leaned over her crate to let her out Mopsy who was sitting on a crate next to her bumped my face and sent my glases flying. I am as blind as a bat without them not to mention that they are quite expensive, so I panicked as I felt along the floor for the wayward pair. Panic in my voice woke Dave up too. It is a well known fact that something like glasses are a treasure for dogs to grab and run away with.  I had to find them before a dog did. It was a very long couple of minutes but finally my hand felt them almost three feet away and before Plato who was trying to help me spotted them. Glasses back on my face Cindy and I made our way outside to our winter wonderland. It is supposed to stop snowing by late afternoon and be sunny tomorrow - according to the waether channel. But the snowplow has to clean th eroad so Dave can get out. Groceries need to be bought for me - I need my canned milk supply for my coffee (and tea)- a staple, a necessity,my lifeline. Bear has to be picked up in Granisle - that road is bad driving at th ebest of times but with snow!! - read what the Mayor of Granisle has to say
He is not a happy camper! It doesn’t look good for our trip unless everything falls into place really quickly. I will update in a couple of hours.

It snowed ubtil 3.30 this afternoon and what a dump of snow it was.

Fog is rolling in as the temperature starts to drop.

Looks cold and eerie doesn’t it?

The sun is going down over the yard.

The fence line from both sides - how are we going to keep th edogs in?

Jade, Holly, Harley, Riley and Lou playing on the snow.

The kitchen window! We’ll have to shovel to see out!!

The bedroom window is covered up. There is a bit of snow here.

The TG Bus is getting ready to leave!

Filed under: Uncategorized — yvette @ 2:21 pm

It is always extremely hectic as we get close to a trip down to Surrey! The last minute details ar eso stressful. Especially when an adoption falls through at the last minute -  such as this week with two pups. It was such a good home too - homevistor was entralled with the home! but they decided that puppies would change the dynamics of their cat population - they have 5 and the girls (10 years old) felt they were too young to accept the responsibility attached to puppies. They felt they were way too much work - not at all like a kitten! Smart kids!! I wish a lot of adults would think things through as thouroughly as these two. So two pups are looking for their families - and I have to answer enquiries, review applications, set up home visits to ensure the family is ready and the right match for the puppy.

The pups are growing like bad weeds!

My favorite Drake - I know  - not supposed to have favorites but he is my sleeping partner well me and Sweetpea!

I think the short legged pups will look like Chico!

While the normal legged pups will look like Nora, especially Sailor and Captain!

I am pretty sure we can do it before Friday. I sure hope so. And then to top it all off. Kernel Pupter’s new mom has to take her students to a mock trial competition and won’t be able to pick up Kernel Pupter this weekend. He needs a short term foster for one week in Vancouver and then a ride to Seattle to meet his adoptive mom from Spokane. So I posted on my rescue forum and hope someone comes forward in time. He has all his paperwork in order and is ready to cross the border to his new adventure.

Kernel Pupter and Riley - Riley has a home in Fort Langley and is going on the TG Bus too.

Speuter day again at Turtle Gardens

Filed under: Uncategorized — yvette @ 12:10 pm

The dark was just turning gray when I woke up this morning. Was it time to get up yet? then I heard Cindy start her "I want to go outside song". Yup it was time to get up. Holy cow it was cold in the front room - I misguaged the wood last night and the woodstove was cold stoned dead. It would have to wait - too much to do this morning. I hollered at Dave that it was time to get up and he was up right then!! I made the coffee and leashed Merry and Moses to keep them fasted. The puppies were clamoring for breakfast! And a drink - please. Everybody fasts on speuter eve. Dave went out to start the TG bus and came in with an armload of kindling. Thank you Dave!! Then he walked Merry to the bus - she walks very well on leash! I dragged dear Moses - he knew something was up and he was having no part of it!
Stubborn boy. Dave drove off and I prepared th efire - no lift in the air, even the paper wouldn’t burn! After much blue language and some tea lights the fire was roaring and I sat to enjoy my first cup of coffee.

Merry and Jade - Gopher in the back!
But he has most of his coat back now! I will take his picture when he comes home to show the difference this round of treatments has made. Moses is one of my demodex gang - a skin condition that is inherited from their mother. It will  be gone forever when their immune system matures. Meanwhile they are under constant treatment and need premium dog food and care. It is worth all the work and expenses to see them happy and playing - their personalities are finally  blossoming — they feel good at long last!

The fence is done at Turtle Gardens!

Filed under: Uncategorized — yvette @ 4:27 pm

Cindy slept in this morning - I let her out late last night before going to bed!! By the time I and my crew got up the coffee was made and the rest of the house was toasty! Thanks Dave As we sat discussing our day I looked out the window to see the dogs happily playing in the front yard.  Safe and secure.

Jade, Riley, Kernel Pupter, Mopsy and Merry

When Dave checked the wood stove he said he needed to split wood so I went out with him to take a few pictures.
Dave and his followers. That is my snowy greenhouse. How I miss working in her - my dog-free zone and stress reliever..

Dave splitting wood with his helpers - Gopher the terrier is now 12 years old, Riley and little Nora who would love her very own older guy or gal to follow.

The front fence line - can you see Dave and the dogs at the far end? And the new wire on top of  the wood fence? That’s a big yard!!

Mopsy is very happy and ready for her family. Where are they?

Nora stretching while she waits for Dave to finish splitting wood.

Snoopy watching Dave too!

And finally Walter - he is doing very well. I left the leash on him so I can catch him and pet him. He still doesn’t like it but tolerates the extra attention. He looks like Mopsy doesn’t he?
