A sunny day at Turtle Gardens

Filed under: Uncategorized — yvette @ 10:33 am

It is a beautiful day in the neighbourhood! The dogs are all sunning themselves all around the yard. The pups are playing outside! Hopefully they will learn potty etiquette soon. Bonny Lassie has plenty of milk for her babies and they are content. She sure can eat though. She eats her large bowl of Precise puppy formula and pedigree canned meat twice a day! She nibbles on dry all night long. The puppies are growing.

And I have the pictures of the new guys finally - th elas tones.

Rose is Rocky’s mom. She is a sweet, gentle soul who wants to be near her person. She is quiet and very well behaved - a very nice family companion. She looks like a lab with perhaps sharpei with all soft lab temperament. What a nice dog!

The snow is finally melting so the fence is working! Rose watching visitors.

Beautiful Ginger - a duck tolling retriever mix puppy!

And dear Elvis. Lorna thinks he is a kelpie mix. He is very attentive, wants to be with you, eager to please and willing to learn. He has good manners and seems to know sit , walks well on leash and is housebroken - a big bonus around here!!. He is also very dog social - everybody is his friend.

Elvis with our foster red Jaxon.

Injured dog at Turtle Gardens

Filed under: IN MEMORIAM — yvette @ 12:30 pm

At 10 am this morning I received a call from the RCMP to ask if we helped injured dogs? I replied that if a dog was in need then yes we would help it. She then told me that a dog had been hit by a car on Mountain View Drive in Houston. She had been told that there was no SPCA in the area and to call Turtle Gardens. She gave me the number of the person who reported the dog and I told her Dave would go out.  Dave found the dog, covered in a blanket with two women trying to help him. She couldn’t get up – it seemed that her back legs were injured. They had called the Burns Lake Veterinary Clinic to find help for the dog. They couldn’t take it to the clinic because they didn’t own the dog so couldn’t pay her bill. Dave arrived and loaded her up in the TG Bus. His friend Richard called me on his cell phone and I called the clinic to inform Dr. Lois that Dave was on his way with the injured dog. Turtle Gardens will find the money to pay her bill. Thank you so very much Dr. Lois for your compassion and care both for the dog and Dave. Dr. Lois was waiting when Dave arrived.

in the TG Bus - on the way to the Clinic.

Do you know this dog? She must have a home with a family who is missing her.  She has no collar or id though.  So how do we find her home? She was running on Mountain View Drive in Houston. If you know who her family is please call Turtle Gardens. Meanwhile she is at the Burns Lake Veterinary Clinic undergoing treatment. Hopefully she will survive her injuries and go home to her family.

UPDATE:  This beautiful girl had a broken back, crushed pelvis and internal injuries. She was helped to her eternal rest at 11.30 am yesterday held in the arms of people who cared about her - Dave and Dr. Lois Martin. She passed peacefully and with grace. Her body will be cremated so she can end her life with dignity. Rest in peace - pretty girl.

Pictures of the new guys at Turtle Gardens

Filed under: Uncategorized — yvette @ 3:08 pm

I woke up to cries of a puppy in distress. As I followed the sound I found a newborn baby with her head caught in the wire of the crate. Bonny Lassie had ripped her bumper pads to shreds in her nesting frenzy, exposing the wire of her maternity ward.  I quickly opened her x-pen and slowly  extricated the crying baby. She has 3 babies then.  With a bunch of quilted blankets - I blocked the bottom of her crate so she could have the rest of her babies in safety. At 11 I fed her Precise puppy food (thank you Coast to Coast Pet Care) with canned meat and she ate the whole bowl! She was hungry after that big job - she had 7 puppies. Three were blonde and four were marked like huskies. I covered her cage so the other dogs couldn’t  see in and left her to rest. An hour later, it was time to change th esoiled bedding. I removed the rest of th echewed up crib pads and placed a folded pink wool blanket for her to lie on. Half done - I put up another bumper pad to block the bottom of her pen - hopefully the babies would be safe. Then I moved the babies onto the clean blanket so the rest could be spread out. Counting the puppies - I discovered 10 little bodies!!  5 blondes who will look like Mom and 5 husky marked like the Daddy. Good grief! That is a big litter for such a small girl. Looks like bottle feeding is a distinct possibility.  Pictures as soon as Dave returns from floodwatch.

Bonny Lassie had just gone back in from outside - good girl - she is clean!

The new guys are settling in.

Shimmer is the mom of the 5 new rolly polly puppies. She appears to be a golden retriever mix with a soft, friendly temperament.

Jesse James who will steal your heart! He is an adult lab/neufie mix - a gentle giant who is very close to Shimmer.

Buddies- Jesse and Shimmer with Elvis behind

Elvis from the pound and Jaxon - our guest for a few weeks.

A much more relaxed Waylon with Emma’s white pup.

More pictures soon!

TG is back!

Filed under: Uncategorized — yvette @ 3:18 pm

I am set up for awhile! The new keyboard and mouse have no cords. The monitor cord has been mickey-moused - thank you Dave - Mr fix-it!!
Thank you Wendy and Charlie - you are the best!!

Dav has picked up the last of the Burns Lake Pound dogs. The reunions made me cry! Little Rocky was so very happy to see his mom - she is a lovely yellow lab mix - I don’t think Rocky is a rotie mix at all! And Shimmer knew as soon as we got the crate full of puppies into the yard that they were hers - her tail was wagging a mile a minute and she uttered little cries as she sniffed the vents in the side of the crate. We wanted to give her a chance to heal from her spay so the pups waited until Dave got home. When I opened the door of the crate she flew inside ot sniff and clean her babies. What a beautiful reunion!

The last one from the pound is a lovely collie mix female puppy - a golden and white beauty! I will post pictures as  soon the bateries charge up. It is great to be back.

A short telephone update from MOM

Filed under: Uncategorized — Stan @ 8:03 am

Well no monitor yet Dad (grampa) drove off to the local puter store (a hour later) and discovered the only monitor that he could buy was A 19" flat screen for about 350 bucks. The sales man at the store gave him a strange look when Dad said "That’s a very expensive chew toy." But I still have good news while Dad and I were shopping with his grandaughter at the everything for a dollar store. He found for 1.17 (they forgot to tell him about the tax)  a  new  pair of  spectacles  they  were even the high powerd 3.00’s . Now as long as the dogs don’t chew them first we have hope he will fix the monitor cord and Mom will give us all a update what’s up at shelter. The way it sound on the phone there is lots going on should be some fun stuff to read soon. I can’t wait Son#1 Stan

Something new from Turtle Gardens Telephone blogging

Filed under: Uncategorized — Stan @ 8:09 am

hahahahahasnorthahahahahasorthahahahah The wonderful house guests at Mom’s house chewed the cord to her monitor last night. Now I am sure that’s a problem we ‘ve all had at our house. :> So now I am on the phone with Mom talking into my ear at a rapid pace thinking I am typing it on the blog. Please don’t tell her it’s not all here. I am supposed to tell you all the T.G bus has arrived at 2:00 am. But there was not monitor in the bus, there was a new printer/fax/scanner  and a wireless keyboard and mouse(no cords to Chew But I thinks they will just chew the whole thing it sounds like to me) in the Bus Thank You so much Wendy and Charlie.I think the bus load of food got there just in time (thanks coast to coast pet care) seems there are some very hungery dogs hahahahhaha but there is not much substinece in puter parts.
I sure am glad  mom is the kinda person that willing take the time to teach all the low life (soon to be yuppie puppies) what a house is then, where the potty is then not to jump up on the counter or stove, but they seem to be having trouble with chewing hahaha. But all you prospective adopters not to worry she will have all there manners in order before she sends them anywhere. And I can tell you as her son that she has been doing it for her whole life so she is very good at it. Now there is a old guy named DAD (GRAMPA) who just got home at 2:00 am that now is going to have to find a monitor, with next to no money and the closest store and the only puter store a hour away .hhhmmmm sounds like a challenge to me but rest assured Dad has been doing it his whole life to and is very good at it as well. So we should be hearing from Mom soon and she will discover that I never said one thing in the blog she told me too. But I LUV YA MOM  Stan son #1

Going outs and coming ins at Turtle Gardens

Filed under: Uncategorized — yvette @ 11:12 am

It has been a very busy weekend and week at Turtle Gardens. The little teddy bear border collie mix went to Kitimat. Cindy found her family from Kitimat - she will live with a six year old boy who was running up and down the road with Cindy on leash.  Thank you Lorna for teaching her leash skills. Cindy never stopped grinning or wagging her tail. She had found her boy!

And my big guy found his perfect match! I never advertised him but Chuck’s wife noticed him on my blog. And called me to ask about Bronson. She had looked at every picture of him on the blog and her husband was very anxious to hear he was available. I explained Bronson’s quirks and foibles and Chuck understood. He had always had Saint Bernards in his life since he was a small boy. His last big fellow stayed with his ex-wife - she got custody. He has been dogless for 8 months trying to find a saint to adopt. Then he saw Bronson. I told him he could visit to see if Bronson was for him. He arrived Saturday morning at the same time as Cindy’s people from Kitimat - all the adoptions this weekend were from Kitimat!! Bronson really liked him. On Monday Chuck came back to pick him up. Bronson walked through the gate - tail wagging. Then he turned back and came to me - giving me a face rub and a final kiss goodbye. Yes I cried. His tail softly waving  he walked to the truck, waited for Chuck to open the door and put down the back seat. Bronson jumped in without hesitation - he was going home! There really is a home for every dog. Good luck Bronson - I will miss you.

The only male puppy from the nautical family has been adopted by a couple from Granisle, yesterday. His name is Ollie - they had chosen a name before coming to see him!

The TG Bus is on the way home today!! Yayyy.

And the new arrivals. Thank you Char for driving them in. TG welcomes Elvis (he likes to sing!), an 18 month old husky mix, Jesse James (he will steal your heart!) a very big lab mix and Shimmer a golden retriever/collie mix who looks an awful lot like Bonnie Lassie the pregnant nautical! They are all from the Burns Lake Pound. I will go out take pictures on this glorious sunny day and post them later.
