A special day at Turtle Gardens

Filed under: Turtle Gardens Diary — yvette @ 12:22 pm

We met a very special person today. I feel like I have known her for a very long time – she healed my soul. Carol you are one very unique and wonderful lady. Sheila was no slouch either – I really, really enjoyed your visit today and I would very much like to know you better, Thank you for taking my little poundling that you met at the Burns Lake Veterinary office today. She will have the best chance ever to find her forever family. What a great surprise that was!

I knew I was meeting special people as soon as my Sweetpea rushed up the driveway to meet the visitors – her chunky body wriggling as if she were greeting old friends!! Dogs know goodness when they see it. As we were having tea and cookies, Sweetpea crawled into Carols’s lap – and folks; that is a first!! Sweetpea is not all that friendly with people, it is rare she will allow anyone to touch her but to actually climb onto a stranger’s lap – that is unheard of. Sweetpea knew good people when she saw her. All of the dogs liked Carol and Sheila too – Nicky and Nala and Shadow, especially Robbie. The boys Poncho and his brother Stanley wary at first were soon trying to be lap dogs – their innocent faces capturing Carol and Sheila’s hearts. These boys know how to work hugs, and love out of anyone but they know real people too. They were content to just lie close by or sit leaning against legs so their heads could be rubbed. Both boys have the same gentle, soulful eyes. Soon they will have their own servants.

Carol meeting Shadow. Sheila did Shadow’s homevisit so Shadow can be home for the holidays.

Sheila meeting Poncho’s brother Stanley, Robbie and her mom Nala.

After tea was the tour of the kennels to visit with all the sheriff dogs. Then Stan drove them to Burns Lake to visit our veterinarians and Char – the animal control officer of Burns Lake. Char was bringing in her newest pound pup for her check up, worming and vaccinations. Sheila fell in love and offered to foster the baby – Stan will deliver her next trip with the TG Bus.

Thank you Carol and Sheila for coming to our humble home. Our dogs and family really really enjoyed you visit.

  2. Hi Yvette,
Carol’s blog on SAINTS touched me deeply. Carol and Sheila went to visit TG
with open eyes and an open heart. I find it quite remarkable that during the visit in
Oct. by the other two women - they were only able to see the ‘bad’ and only focused on
the negative. How could they not be able to observe or report anything positive?
Yesterday, two different women go up and see all the goodness at TG despite the
shortcomings and challenges you and your family face daily.
    You touched their hearts.
A good heart always prevails. and sometimes it takes one to recognize another.
    Sweetpea can vouch for that!
Have a wonderful and blessed Christmas.
    Big hugs.

  3. I am thrilled that everyone had such a good day. I am touched by Carol’s and Sheila’s reports. And I am thankful that two groups of dedicated animal caregivers, one from the north and one from the south, were able to get together and share tea and stories and moral support.
Merry Christmas to all of you at Turtle Gardens.

  4. What a wonderful gift for Christmas! Thank you, Sheila and Carol, for your heartfelt comments. Dave, Yvette, Stan and Kelsey make enormous sacrifices every single day simply because it really is all about the dogs. Jaxon, HoneyBear and I send all of you our love. Merry Christmas!

  5. You all deserve a good day, and a cup of tea as well. I loved what Carol had to say in her blog, couldn’t have said it all better myself.
my only regrets Yvette and Dave is that when Brent, Riley Bear and I came to visit you in June little did we know at that time that Stan was arriving soon to help with renovations and perhaps it was not a good time to see you. We wanted to help you all out so much and we had the timing been better for you I had full intentions of becoming a housemaid for the doggies, knowing full well you needed help. My own two doggies can tell you that I have become a dog and perhaps they have become more human, we have certainly learned a lot from each other. It was not easy dealing with all of that mud just after the flood and being alone that day I understood it was not a good time to visit. But all of your lovely dogs looked happy following you around never letting you out of their site. I think they are looking after you Yvette, mine look after me. Don’t ever underestimate their true sixth sense, and I know you can read them.
I was touched to hear that Kelley is up there with Stan and you both, she is truly wonderful and I hope she can find the schooling up there for the courses she needs.
Yvette the good news , my latest tests , show that I still have a brain!!! wow , only my white matter has lesions from the stroke, so I continue to improve, but the heart is damaged, we must deal with the hole there, but you can bet just as soon as I get through this what I call
“the between” part in my life (it certainly is not the stability part), I will get reorganized and stronger and be able to help foster dogs again and help out more. I am so sorry that I am not there for you just now in your time of need.
But you know , my health just now kinda reminds me of the ups and downs of trying to run a shelter or LIFE, we sometimes hit that hole after some stability, we have a decision to make, we either transcend or collapse from that, I firmly believe you all will reorganize and stabilize again coming out at a higher level.
Think positive, conserve your energy for the truly important things, and continue to surround yourselves with people that will help you, let them help you. There are many people out there along with Carol and Sheila that care about the great northern dogs and you all as well. I don’t think I would have called you all rednecks, just simple people. But what do I know, I love simplicity myself.
So here is a simple greeting , that you all have a healthy holiday together, you certainly have love all about you and that is all that is important.
Thanks again for lovely Riley, she and Bear are a real pair.
Have faith, don’t let the chaos take over, concentrate on the good you have done.
all the best, Marka and furry friends

  6. Hi Yvette and welcome to Kelsey! You have truly given a legacy to your family and shown that money is not the most important goal to pursue. While we have never met, I am grateful to have had Stan and Kelsey’s help fostering Truman when you first sent him down to us in the spring - “Hello Auntie Kelsey - stay warm!” he says! And our warmest wishes and hugs - so glad to see you regain your inner light, and some compassionate company, Yvette, you deserve it :)
