it was a worrisome day yesterday as my guys were seriously delayed behind the bus accident at Bridal Falls - they were the third vehicle in the line up on TV at noon!! But I didn’t see the news until 15 minutes into it and missed the story - so did Davy our second son. So we worried and called each other every hour. Thank goodness I had my good coffee. It really helped. We figured if the TG Bus had been in an accident we would have been called so we waited for news. Santa will be bringing TG a cell phone for Christmas!! It is a necessity not a luxury - it hurts to worry like that!!
The TG Bus arrived at 4.30 pm - 6 hours late. The first adoption to go was little Shadow - her family live in Cloverdale so weren’t too far away. Shadow was a bit shy but went to her Mom right away. She was very happy to walk away.
Then it was Mya’s turn. Friendly Mya liked both her new guardians - and treated the resident old girl with the respect due her. Mya of course was very eager to go for another ride - she loves to travel!!
Soon all the adopters were called and the rest were ready to go too. Robbie’s family arrived at 8pm. Sheela’s family at 6 pm - hopefully she will pass kitty 101 - she is a foster to adopt pending kittie introduction. She was acting out her frustration at the long drive but soon settled after a walk around the block. Makenna was the lady she always is - she greeted her new family with gentleness and grace. Jim and Craig were very pleased with our little girl. Finn met his new mom and she has sent an update!! Thank you Kate and Lucy for letting me know how his first evening and day are going:
Hi Yvette…
tonight….
Well what a trip down your men had, and it was a long one, I really didn’t envy them at all, but they were both very gracious, eager to complete their mission in getting the dogs to their new homes. When Stan called I wasted no time in getting Lucy into the Jeep and away we went.
Finn is a sweetie and a handsome boy, and it will take a little while to get settled, but I am confident that he will, he’s had a very long trip, and so much in such a short time. He is very mellow, but serious and very scared right now, he’s had so many changes in his little life. Lucy and he are at least not fighting, the meeting went well, but right now the boundries are being set, well Lucy is setting them ! She has been the princess for over a year, and she’s not ready to give up her crown, she will share, in time, I can see that, but some things are off limits… its a delicate balance in the making.
I can see that the time he had with you, has been the most time he has had personal contact, I think he was a pretty independant soul before he came to you. this little one will be challenging in a way Lucy was’nt. He wants to be close but will have to trust a lot before that happens I feel. He is however lying at my feet, as I type, Lucy is in her favorite spot, under the desk, and she won’t give that up for anything .. yes it will be an interesting next few days.
Day 1
My Lucy is a prima donna, she was not giving an inch last night. I felt bad for Finn, all he wanted to do was be social, once he semi-calmed down, but she was having none of it. It was a long night, with not much sleep. Lucy in the prime poition under the bed, and Finn finally settled for a blanket beside the bed. One thing about boy dogs, they love to show they can pee ! they don’t seem to care if its off lead or on. they love to pee ! and he did his business this morning on lead, which I was very shocked at, its all on the spot you pick, and of course lots of praise and treats help.
I have had to keep a lead on him, temporatily, he doesn’t like it when you reach for his collar, and go through that motion, similar to being in a caught situtation , so that will take a while, he tends to panick, till its on then he’s fine…which is strange because he walks very well on lead. I am careful as to how much attention he is recieving at the moment, as I don’t want Lucy to feel he is taking her place in the pack, or to incite more jealousy and possesiveness.
once she realizes, he is not a threat, I am sure things will be fine.
geesh, listen to me, I’m only worried about 2, and you have how many to worry about. My hat is definitley off to you, you must be a magician !!
Will keep you posted. I hope you enjoy the things I sent up, Wishing you all a Merry Xmas.
ps. I got the vet records, but there was no paper in the pouch indicating the vaccination record, was there a separate one ?
take care,
Kate, Lucy, and now Finn
and last but not least Stan was up at 6 am this morning to meet the ferry and hand over Muskwa! Kim and John were impressed at their perfect match - he was exactly what they expected. He went happily up the ramp to his new life!
Sheila picked up the pretty pound pup and we will have updates soon. Happy Endings are the rhyme and reason for Turtle Gardens.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Muskwa!!
Yvette ,
This boy is BEAUTIFUL ! !!!! No finer a Christmas present could anyone get ! He did very well on the ferry home and mixed well with the other travelling dogs. Stan is a prince of a gent and you can clearly see the love for his animals in his smile !The north is extremely lucky to have you all !
We will forward pictures once he settles, although he’s been home a few hours and mixing very well with trouper too ! Trouper seems very keen on having him here as well ! A wonderful combination if I do say so in the early hours of his new family. The weather here is very stormy and the ferry ride across was bumpy as well, It was refreshing to see Stan and company doing what you folks do best !
Got to go now, he’s snuggling in close ! he likes the fireplace ! May Santa be extremely good to all of you and your flock there. Many thanks again for your work and effort in making this come together, Muskwa says THANKS !!!
Cheers…
John & Kim Hosie
And now Makenna: I love Happy Endings!!!
Hi Yvette,
Makenna is doing fine. I am glad that Stan and Dave got down okay yesterday after being stuck for hours behind that bus accident. I was worried they might be short on gas with a van full of dogs. Glad it all worked out.
Makenna was pretty mixed up with the long drive and the recent spaying. She is sure a gentle spirit with a shy affectionate personality. I call it her northern spirit, and everything is new to her in the big city. I notice that when I was with Stan and she heard a fire truck off in the distance, and she was wondering what that was.
She had a good sleep last night, right beside my bed and did not get upset when my son Craig came home late from work. I have been walking her about 4 times a day to get her to know her new neighbourhood, and she has been eating her three meals per day and is quite happy to drink from her water dish. It will take her a while to get used to the new surroundings and when she goes out in the yard now she is looking around everywhere. Not sure if it is because she is looking for her pup or misses all the other dogs up north. She has been sleeping well this evening as it was a busy day yesterday and she is still recouping from her surgery. When she is out walking she is full of energy although she is like a Ninja warrior as she is so quiet in her movements and never barks.
Stan is a great fellow and sure was helpful with the people who are adopting the dogs.
I will send you pixs of her when she is more settled in.
Cheers,
Jim
