Circle of life at Turtle Gardens

July 12th, 2008

Today Sophie took her last journey and is at peace. She was very restless all night and though I gave her pain medication, she couldn’t settle. This morning Dave and Kelsey bundled her onto our stretcher and took her to our wonderful vets in Burns Lake. She had cancer. She was helped peacefully from this earth to a much better place where she can run free of pain. Go softly to that gentle night sweet girl.

There was no time to grieve as Linda arrived with a mom and her pups who desperately needed a safe haven. As Auntie Sophie started her journey I was busy getting a spot ready for Georgia and her four 12 day old babies. Turtle Gardens welcomes our newest arrivals –

There is 3 boys and 1 girl. The girl is mostly black with a thin stripe on her face, One male has classic border collie markings, one is mostly black and one is cream and white. Mom is cocker spaniel size and looks spaniel. Her mother was Sheba the pure border collie who came in just a few months ago. But Georgia is very small. She is barely 8 months old – a baby having babies. I will help her as much as I can but I will really miss Auntie Sophie – we really needed her to help with this litter.

I forgot to mention the pound pup yesterday. He is also nameless. He appears to be a scottie or a soft coated wheaton/schnauzer mix?? What do you think?

He is a mature neutered male. Char had to shave him down to his skin – he was so matted. He has a leathery patch on his back and a severe ear infection. But what a nice boy he is! He is quiet, clean (what a bonus!!) and affectionate. He weighs about 26pounds but is quite chunky. He likes everybody and is a dream to have here. Someone will have a treasure for sure!

I am so sorry to hear of (Aunty) Sophie’s passing – my thoughts are with you, I believe she was a very special part of Turtle Gardens who will be sorely missed. I wonder if perhaps one of the other dogs now in your care (or perhaps still to come to you) will take over Sophie’s mothering duties. Take care of yourselves, rest in peace Sophie.

So sorry to hear about Sophie, she sounds like that once in a lifetime dog. We had one when I was 15 and I’ll never forgot her. As much of a mother as Sophie was, she’ll no doubt send her replacement once she’s settled.

my condolences to you about Sophie…. it is so hard to watch your love one stuggle with cancer I can relate as I had to put down my beautiful shepherd girl this winter. she was a protector, babysitter and excellent company for my family.

I think your grey gentleman is definately a schnauzer mix, he seems very handsome even if he had to be shaved right down. You said he was a mature male, how mature is he? is he a young adult or retirement age? My lilly is looking for a friend to play with.
