News at Turtle Gardens
My first visitor today was at 7:15 this morning. I met Daniel at the gate in my robe!! He was traveling through the area and had heard about Turtle Gardens in Smithers so decided to stop in and see for himself. What he saw really surprised him - all the sizes and ages of dogs all in the same yard - all getting along. And all of them converging around me vying for attention as well as jumping up on the fence to say hello to Daniel. He was pleased that they were so friendly and so nice and well why were they here?
So I told him where they came from each and every story. He was here for more than 45 minutes and I think he left knowing that a rescue dog is a great dog! And all this before my coffee!!
This seemed to be the harbinger of the day. Phone calls and more visitors. One very special visitor who drove up to the Great North from Vancouver. Their daughter-in-law told them about Turtle Gardens so they had to stop in and visit. Cheryl - I met Julian and (oh lord I can’t remember her name and she was so nice!!)and her mini aussie Kristi and the old border collie who didn’t come out but I petted his beautiful gray face through the open window- what a regal boy!) What a wonderful visit we had and she so kindly left a donation too. They were planning on stopping in Smithers at a gorgeous camping ground near Smithers. If it is the one I am thinking of the fishing is fantastic!!
I promised pictures of the new puppies who arrived yesterday. The four little girls have totally integrated with Georgie and her litter. They may not be as old as I was told. They are eating better than the little ones but are not acting like 7 week old puppies - more like 5.5 weeks old. They are very people social and darn cute too. The older pups are also playing with them and hanging out with Georgie and her brood.
Wimpy comforting the very new arrivals

Little Marco Polo is the wrong side! The four newbies with Georgie’s babies.
The little explorer Marco Polo!

Spring is so gentle with the biggest Georgie pup.

The new boy - breed id?? The closest I can come up with is karelian bear dog/basset hound!! He needs a name too. And a neuter and vaccinations. The pups and him too come from Lake Babine Nation.
Dave and Bear and Stan are loading up the 26 foot u-haul with fencing and donations for the long drive home. Well almost home - Stan will drive the big truck to Prince George and then take the greyhound back. Dave and Bear will stop at her daughter’s for the night then Dave will drive the truck and Bear will drive the TG Bus home. How cool is that!!
My favorite flowers in my favorite colors! Nothing is growing very well - we had a killing frost a couple nights ago!!

My mother in law’s name is Connie and yes she is a lovely lady. Glad to read this so we know that they are doing well on their travels. They are quite senior 81 and 77 so the family was a little concerned about how they would do. I will let Dave’s brothers know all is well. I had mentioned to Connie they would be near there so glad they could stop by. Carlos is their rescue Aussie who looks like a BC and Krissy is their rescue mini Aussie who is a handful. This is very entertaining to read. Thanks for the update!!

Cheryl - they plan on being in Terrace tomorrow to visit with their friend who was a postmaster in the very far north!! They plan to stay a day or so then onto Prince Rupert to see what they can see! I so enjoyed Connie - we had to quit chatting as Julian gave the “eye”. Thank you for sending them to see me - I so appreciate the company. Yvette

Hi Yvette
Your blog is always foremost on my daily to do read list so please don’t think we out here in cyberland are not reading your blog. My days lately are a little hectic to say the least and I am full of great intentions to comment, however, when I go to write something I feel I always have the same old broken record comments…..great photos, great stories, great information and great job being done at TG and I didn’t want to become too blase by repeating myself so often. I know your daily schedule must be absolutely full with all those puppies and doggies to care for and so it is definitely appreciated to know that you will put aside some of your valuable hands on time caring for the doggies to keep all your TG supporters up to date and connected. In case I haven’t said so lately, thank you Yvette and TG for the great work you are doing and keep up the good work!!! Take care…..

The new dog looks like he could be a boder collie/corgie or border/ basset although seems kind of fine boned for a basset hound mix I think……. so hard to tell sometimes, what is his personality like maybe that will lend some clues to his parentage.
Maybe he is just a dwarf….. Doc could be a good name for him if that is the case.
Take care and hope you have a chance to sleep in tomorrow.

The new Black white guy looks like a Cardigan Corgi (one with a tail). Not purebred of course but thats the closest looking breed. He’s cute. Maybe call him “Prince” since the royals like Corgis. HA

He sure is cute whatever he is - in keeping with the “royal theme” - he could be a Wills or Harry or Henry or Charlie or….(lots of other royal names I can’t think of at this moment!). I also think he looks like a “Diggory” - but I am not sure if you already have a dog by this name (or perhaps there was a recently adopted Diggory?) I know you have Dudley - he is gorgeous by the way - how is his house-training coming along? Hope this helps!

Ok I know I have already blogged but I have a couple of questions that I just have to ask.
1) what kind of puppies are the new arrivals?
2) where did the name turtle gardens come from?
The little ones look so tiny next to Georgia’s pups. You are going to have your hands full playing mommy to those litttle guys not to mention all the extra clean-up that comes along with that duty. Luckily thanks to your kindness and experience those little guys are going to get the best start in life and will make some lucky person a perfect companion to love and treasure.
