Our oldest little girl passed away quietly surrounded by her fur and human family at my feet. I am still sleeping in my easy chair so my fur family sleeps all around my chair. The privileged few sleep under the covers at my feet – Sweetpea, Grizzly, Lily and sometimes Redman. Lily stopped eating and decided to just sleep with occasional drinks o water. She did not seem in distress or pain so I let her sleep with her family. I gave her metacam just in case on advice from the vet. She passed away in her sleep during the evening. Rest in peace little one – you were a very good dog.
Lily arrived at Turtle Gardens from a Southside collector. She had seizures so he wanted her gone so my friend Ann scooped her up and brought her in. Lily was mostly feral – she didn’t trust humans. It took almost a year for her to jump on my bed. Then she discovered standing with her little paws on my leg at supper time got her tidbits and there she was every meal! Lily had character! Our vets decided that during her evaluation that she was 8 or 9 years old, she had seizures and she had a grade 4 heart murmur – she would not live long. Spaying was not an option -so we watched her carefully for the short time she had left – that was in 1997. Lily fooled us all. She lived happily and securely in her environment. Lily leaves a very big hole in our hearts.

Yvette and Dave – I am so sorry about your loss. Lily was so fortunate to have 12 wonderful years at Turtle Gardens.
Even though there is a big hole in your hearts right now, that hole will be filled with warm and special
memories of little Lily. Love never dies. Big hugs and tummy rubs to all.

Our hearts go out to you Yvette and your family both fur and human. We hope some of that hole can be filled with the memory of how Lily was able to fill her last years with love and comfort from you.
I remember a story. . .
After sitting with a dieing family pet, a 4 year old boy once said,
“Everybody is born so that they can learn how to live a good life, like
loving everybody and being nice, right?” He continued calmly, “Well, see?
Animals already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”
Lily has completed her tasks here on earth and is now playing with all her furry friends who completed their stints here on earth earlier.
Bless you Yvette and People from Turtle Gardens
Much love & hugs

my condolences to you It is always hard saying good bye but from the sounds of it she out lived her normal life span never mind the fact she had other health issues. I am glad for her that she passed away quietly at home with her mistress. I quess her longevity is due to all the great care you showered on her and her will and spirit to live life to its fullest.

Oh Yvette and Dave you will miss your little Lily. Twentyone years that is the longest I have ever heard of a dog living and loving. She had found her heaven and didn’t want to leave it, it is so hard to lose a faithful companion and you both have my sincere sympathy.Lynda

I am so sorry to hear of Lily’s passing. She obviously lived a long, happy life – much longer than expected – because of your loving care. I know how hard it is to say goodbye to a special friend and my thoughts are with you.

We will all miss Lily. You gave her a good life. You and Papa Dave are amazing.
I just wanted to check in, let you know how I was doing. Mocha and I are best of friends. We play til we drop – power nap and play again. Mom actually kicks us out side. I prefer to wrestle in the living room with Mocha its warmer. Mocha loves to be outside though. I tried to tell her I was done with the cold winter. Mom has taken some video of us wrestling. She was laughing so loud. We do put on quite the show. I have got in a bit of trouble… I just can’t keep out of the recycling and I figured out how to open up 2 full flour bags with Mocha. She told me it was her first time getting into this cupboard. When mom came home she hid under the bed. I was not sure why she ran. But I heard moms voice change. She has a hard time staying mad at me but I was definatley grounded for a bit. Well I miss you guys. I will check in again…
Hugs and sloppy kisses. xoxox

Very Sorry to hear about Lily. I understand how you feel.
I have lost a few dogs and cats to old age and disease and it really hurts.
I am glad that she was able to live in your loving home for so long till her departure and I am glad she had was able to see not all humans are bad/ignorant and cruel.
I don’t and never will understand the cruely of other people.
I am glad there are lots of people that really do care and make a difference in a animals life.
And the rest of the cruel people can just go to hell. Excuse this, but that is how I feel about them.
“Rest in Peace Lily”
Sue

Our condolences Yvette and Dave. We are so sorry your sweet Lily has passed away, but how wonderful for all of you that she was able to go peacefully, surrounded by all of her loved ones (human and fur). A truly sad time, but also an uplifting one – to know that because of you she had so many more years than expected. Had Lily not come to you when she did, I am quite sure she would not have had the additional 12 years – likely the best of her life! Keep up the good work, allow yourself the time to grieve, and know that you make a difference in the world – for both humans and animals.
Thank you so much for caring and doing your best to find good homes for all the dogs out there. Thank you again for Juno – he is absolutely wonderful, and has filled the hole in my heart with his love, his antics, and his amazing personality. It’s hard to believe that he’s only been with me since late November! I truly love my special little Shiba boy (even when he does something bad, he’s so darn cute it is hard to be mad).

Yvette and Dave:
I was so sorry to read about the loss of your little Lily. Take comfort in the fact that even though she had such a terrible start, she ended up being where she was supposed to be, with you and Dave. She understood and valued what unconditional love meant, and you were both there for her when she probably wouldn’t have made it in any other home, both of you gave her patience, love and understanding. I’m sure Lily has given you memories to last a lifetime, just remember her little face, and she will always be there to warm your hearts.
rest in peace little girl.
Kate D.
