All the hardworking ladies at The Burns Lake Veterinary Clinic are in full swing with the garage sale and silent auction preparations! Donations are rolling in and community support is again overwhelming. It is so good to see so many concerned people helping the stray animals! Our first silent auction donation was an all day recording session with Ratbrain Studio, complete with editing, mixing, mastering and rendering for a 24 track CD/MP3! A $500 value! Thank-you Ratbrain Studio and Roy Burk! This year’s Mother Millie sale is going to ROCK! The sale will take place in the mall on Feb.13, see you there. Still a few weeks to donate those garage sale items! Please call 692-7476 for pick up or to volunteer to help us pickup:)
Foster Home Updates:
Gabby is a mature spayed female Bengal Leopard cat who likes high places, playing in water and drinking from the bathroom tap. She is also likes to talk a lot and has a fairly loud voice. She is still very playful and enjoys snuggling under the covers at night. She is a lap cat when she decides she wants to be. Gabby doesn’t like to be carried. She likes dogs but hasn’t had much exposure to kids. Gabby would have a difficult time being separated from her sister Tifa as she often calls to Tifa and Tifa will go running to see what she wants.

Tifa is a mature spayed female who is very shy and will hide when company comes over or when she is in a new situation. Once she gets to know you she is very affectionate. She also likes to talk and has a very sweet voice. She is not a lap cat but will lay beside you and watch t.v. Dry food cannot be left out as she will overeat. She likes to sleep on top of the bed at night. Tifa doesn’t like to be carried. She likes dogs but hasn’t had much exposure to kids. Her perfect home would be with her sister Gabby.

Olivia continues to be very content and happy living in the workshop. It’s been over 3 months now and she has never tried to escape and doesn’t seem interested in going outdoors. She is a very very sweet cat…very loving. She talks to me and follows me around the shop. She loves being picked up and loved. She loves smooches near her ears and just purrs and purrs. She is very socialized and would make someone a wonderful pet. She seems like she is happy being a solitary cat but maybe she would be ok with one other cat. When I open the door she jumps down from her bed and comes running to greet me, talking the whole way. I call her Olivia the Precious. I hope you find a very good home for her. She is just so sweet. The other day Olivia caught a mouse!

Boy, we’re really enjoying our little foster kits (Onyx, Abbie and Callie). The last two weeks have been a collection of mini-breakthroughs. Firstly, last week Onyx/Blackie started to let us pet him, and then just last night Abbie/Hissy let us pet her! She changes her mind quite frequently about whether or not she wants pets, but I’ve noticed that she usually is in the mood if she comes up, sniffs your fingers, and then drops onto the floor and writhes around as if you weren’t there. I think she thinks it gives her plausible deniability for when we try and label her “approachable”! Callie/Whiteface is as sweet as ever and is pretty much a lap cat these days. She isn’t fully comfortable with being picked up and leaps to the floor 80% of the time I’ve surprised her by picking her up, but when seated, she’ll settle and fall asleep right in your lap.

Kuro is with a foster family who has renamed her to Midnight. Her foster family is also her rescuer. Midnight is one of several kittens who were left to fend for themselves when their owner passed away with no family to step in and help out. Midnight had 5 kittens with her, two have been adopted and the other three are Onyx, Abbie and Callie. When midnight was rescued she was done raising her kittens! She wanted some peace and quiet. Our little shelter was full and her rescuer decided to take her in. She now lives with several other cats and she is very unhappy. She hides under the bed all day long. She needs a loving hand who can give her some one on one attention without the distraction of other cats. She loves her rescuer and is very affectionate and happy to have some quiet time.

Lucky is our young polydactyl kitty who is looking for a home where she has a quiet space of her own. She loves high places and hiding in drawers, and attention! She doesn’t like other cats but she will tolerate a docile dog. She has been with her foster home for 6 months.

Shelter Update:
Missy is 1-2 year old spayed female who was rescued by a concerned neighbour who found her and her kittens starving in a wood shed. She took Missy and her kittens in and worked very hard to find homes for them. Missy came to the clinic after not being adopted with her two remaining kittens Little Smoke and Little Black. Missy is a very loving mother who takes very good care of her teenage kittens. She is friendly and affectionate and loves her bowl of water! We cannot keep it full enough!

Little Black is one of my personal favourites. He is the 7 month old son of Missy. Little Black’s rescuer misses him terribly and says that Little Black was the runt and his nickname is Mr. Macho! He loves to play in the bath tub with his toy mice. He also loves to sing in your ear when he cuddles beside your neck. While neutering Little Black at the clinic this sweet kitten purred the whole time, he went to sleep purring and woke up content and purring.

Little Smoke is the 7 month old daughter of Missy. Little Smoke’s rescuer says she loves her toys, loves to purr and sings to wake you up in the morning. She is a fair weather cat and likes to be inside when it is cold! She is a very loving girl who needs a home to call her own.

Mercedes is a 6 month old kitten who has been spayed. This little girl is super devoted and loves to be cuddled. She is not very happy sharing her space with other cats and may need a single cat family or a family who can work with her to accept other pets. Her rescuer may want to adopt her but we are still waiting to hear a definite decision.

Willow is a 5-6 year old spayed female. She was one of several cats rescued when her owner passed away this summer. She has not been handled much and is nervous about all the new attention. She is coming around quickly and has tolerated being picked up with grace and dignity. She has been rescued with her sister Noir (pictures to come soon:).
