Cass-son has his foster home in Nanaimo

February 3rd, 2010

Cass-son is a perfect companion in every way except – he chased and hurt one of the resident cats when she ran. Since early Sunday Cass-son lived with the 4 cats but they didn’t run away from him. He went to work with his Mom and was awesome – all her clients adored him. He is wonderful on leash and in the car, quiet in the office – a total gem. But he isn’t safe with the old cat and she was there first. Is there anyone who can take this boy as soon as possible like tomorrow! He is in Abbotsford.

Have you found anyone? I’m in Nanaimo but I can foster if someone can meet me at the ferry with him.

How sad, now Cas-son is homeless.
I know how horrible cat chasing is cause my dogs killed my little cat last week in my home.
It is the most horrible thing a animal loving person can experience
Now we have up baby gates, dogs can not go out unsupervised and I have to rehome either 1 or 2 of my dogs.
It is a very stressful situation and sooooo unbareably sad.
They say their prey drive is natural, they say they can be re-trained

Wow, can they ever be trusted???? I do not know
Good luck Cass-son, I hope you find a cat free home

Thank you so much Louise, Stan, my son will pick him up and deliver him to the Nanaimo ferry. He lives in Victoria and helps his mom and dad a lot! Thank you again. I will email the particulars asap. But today for sure.

I had the oposite problem I had a cat who would goe after the dogs.
I eventually trained him to not try and remove the eyeballs of the dogs and
now I will find him laying or rubbing up against the dogs. A little discipline went
a long way and now he is happier for it.

I did have my dogs kill my freinds cat ( many years ago) when she was babysitting
them for meI was horrified and deeply saddened and embarrased since they were so
good with my own cat. That instinct to chase when something runs can be devistating.

Good to hear that Louise is willing to take him on as a foster and so glad to hear that he did not kill the cat, that would have truely been a disaster.

    I have a little cat…..sweetiest little thing……
She is a runner. Raised with dogs, but she see a strange dog and she runs.
The dogs chase. Dogs that are good with cats, chase her and growl and snap……
Last summer I was searching for a new dog, I did want to take a shelter dog, as I do believe they make the best, most loyal pets. But little cat, Smudge, made it impossible to bring a new dog into the house.
I did finally find a little Schnauzer pup. The pup chased her, but shomehow Smudge knew it was all in fun…..they had a understanding from day 1. Now 6 months latter and they are good friends…….
Last summer I learned…….It is not always the dog’s fault…..sometimes the cats just give a “victim” signal to the dogs….and the chase is on…..
And it appears to me—that dogs like some dogs, other dog they dislike. Some dogs do not like some cats……..while they may get along fine with others……’go figure’

There is also something about ‘not my cat’, dogs can have certain cats which are theirs and safe and only outside cats are in danger. My border collie had separate understandings of my sisters cats and any other cats were fair game for ‘herding at high speed’. What a stupid move Casson!!!! Poor kitty!

It’s an unfortunate move. I don’t think it’s stupid – just instinctive. Some dogs have more prey drive than others. My one dog is like that with running cats too.

We have similar problems…(well really they are just incidents) with Jasper (he’s a hound). When the cats run he chases, when the cats hiss and paw at him he stands up for himself…he has never bitten one and when they come to snuggle him he lets them do their thing…he even lets them clean his ears and tail. We do have a baby gate on the stairs so the cats can escape and all their goodies like food and kitty litter are up there.

Poor Cass-son….glad to see he found a foster home so quickly and wishing him the best in finding a new forever home.
