Oonah goes visiting – Kwel – Oonah’s foster mom

February 8th, 2010

We sure had a great day here in Courtenay. The weather was clear and definitely felt like spring, Oonah and Lilli decided on a rousing game of king of the dirt pile in my backyard, its a huge pile of dirt that is waiting to become a new garden bed. The girls got completely caked with mud. But judging by the wagging tongues and tails they had a enormously great time. Oonah got her 4th bath since last Saturday. She is great to bathe and groom. The blow dryer is fast becoming a enjoyed experience, warm air, a nice brushing and lots of praise makes her very happy.
Last night Oonah and I took our first jog in the rain, at night. The cars splashed by and on she jogged not a problem at all. On the leash she makes Lilli feel like a dump truck with manual steering. Oonah is feather light and never pulls on the leash. She is a joy to walk or jog with, I bet she is going to love running with a bike.
This evening we went over to a friends house with my own two children. Its was a very loud place with toys and 3 young (ages 4-5-7) kids running around being kids. Not a problem for her she just settled in by me and watched everything with great interest. When a few more friends arrived she went to greet at the door like she had lived there all her life. No jumping up or running away. Just a calm “hiya, have you got a treat for me?”
Oonah is getting on average 4-5 5 minute focused training sessions a day . I really like breaking down the sessions into short little pieces, that way it is always fun and positive, ending before she is burned out and bored. She thinks it is a game and tries to do her very best all the time.
Thanks Yvette and Dave for giving this wonderful dog her chance at a great life. I am very proud to be able to have these wonderful experiences with dogs that without your interventions would have very short unhappy lives.

And then later:

We headed out to Kye bay this afternoon, everyone had a complete blast. Lilli and Oonah tore up the sand. Its a huge beach and it was empty so we had the whole place to ourselves.Oonah is a super well behaved girl for her age and life experience.

What a happy story to start my day with! Next time I’m up island, I shall definitely have to keep an eye out for Oonah. What a lucky dog to have found such a safe and loving place to land.
