A sleepover/an arrival and a sleepover return – in and out at Turtle Gardens

The weather was darn hot yesterday! And mosquitoes are hatching and looking for food. Not me – I slather repellent on. I get huge bumps from bites so off is my best friend for a while until I build up an immunity again. The river has been rising slowly – there are a few pools in the lower lawns. The dog yards are still water free. Crossing fingers and toes, paws too.

Yesterday at 8am we received a visitor that a dog was running on the highway near Findlay Falls – it appeared very skinny. Dave went out right away and looked for it. Finally locating it in a field. It was quite spooked, so Dave left food for it and it chowed down right away. At 8am today another call this time the phone – asking Dave to please pick up a dog in her yard. Dave went out again – there is no animal control in unincorporated area so our area calls us. Dave brought it into the yard. It was the one he chased yesterday! Maybe. It seems that there is 2 or 3 big white skinny dogs and a small one running around Topley. This one is a young female in very poor condition. She seems friendly with me and is so hungry. Turtle Gardens welcomes another needy soul!

Toast came back – she was just too much for her to handle on her own. Her family situation changed as she took Toast home. Toast learned a few lifeskills and got a new collar and leash, learned to walk on a leash and liked her new bed. So a positive thing not a negative. Any learning experience is good. Welcome home Toast – you will be going to Emily who knows how to turn shy dogs into social butterflies. Just like Honey!!

then a phone call from Smithers. They have always had German Shepherds as house dogs. They started with puppies but now that they were older they would prefer an adult that was already housetrained. Did we have any? I mentioned Primus and Lupa and their personalities/temperaments etc. They decided to come out right away and arrived by 5 pm. Lupa went out first on leash and she was so very happy to go out. Then Primus went out. They wanted to compare the two side by side. They went for a long walk and when they returned asked if Lupa could go for a sleepover – one to two weeks? Papers were signed and Lupa happily went with them to their SUV. The back was opened and into the her soft bed she jumped. She was going home! Be good little girl this is your chance at a very good family that understands your nature.

  1. Oh, that white girl is so skinny! I can’t wait to see her “after” pictures in a few months.

  2. Lucky Lupa! Let’s hope her sleepover goes well. But that poor skinny white girl…. just skin and bones! She will be beautiful when she gets a little flesh on her. So glad that you could rescue her- that’s what “rescue” is all about.

  3. I can only imagine how hard it must have been for the lady that took Toast home to have to turn around and bring her back. I had no choice but to return a dog who had never been exposed to cats and determined that he was going to eat them for dinner and, even still, I was in tears when I gave him up even though we’d only been together a few hours. We know that little Toast, beauty that she is, well find her furever home but getting hopes up and having them dashed like that can be damned hard on a hoomin!

  4. How sad..for the loose girl..they are tied up and you want to free them..they are free running loose and we need to capture them..so sad that both ways are not the right way..she is in the right space now..good luck sweet face..

  5. Awe Toast, it might not have worked out, but just maybe you’ll get adopted somewhere close to your sister Honey/Daisy. Family’s gotta stick together you know! Looking forward to having her next bus run :)

  6. Yvette thanks for the cute photo of Lupa! who is that other dog in it?? We are all crossing fingers and paws down here that she will have found her forever home. Thanks Dave for getting the white dog! I needed a kleenex after that blog and can’t wait to see her fattened up! Lynda
