  1. Great plan Stan, but I really don’t know how many applicants you are going to get! You lost me at remote location….and ability to multitask . This shows just how talented your Mom is!

  2. LOL Stan, You have again made your point crystal clear. Your Mom is irreplaceable. If I could I would gladly pack up my chitlins and my own two dogs and be heading to Topley. Maybe I could help with something on this end. Got any ideas?

  3. Hahaha…great post Stan! You left out a few jobs…
    computer tech
    head cook
    housekeeper
    sanitation associate
inventory control (dog food, meds, supplies and so on)

Yes – the job does not pay well but the potential candidate earns doggy hugs and kisses for life.

  4. Stan – that writing course is paying off. That was a very funny (and very accurate) post. Well done.

  5. You left out vet tech as well………… who else give the meds, clean the wounds, bandages, take out stitches and attends to the babies.

Good luck with every thing If I lived closer I would help but alas a 3.5 hr drive is not going to work, hope you can find help with in the community of Topley or Houston.

  6. Stan is right, TG needs funding to be able to hire staff and be sustainable in some way other than (or in addition to) the tears and selfless devotion and sacrifice of the Labattes.

I have been thinking and thinking about what I can do to help. TG needs regular, dependable funds, and/or a big grant to start a foundation where they could run the rescue off the dividends.

Like many other readers I am sure, I check the TG blog a few times a week and each time I see beautiful dogs that I would love to have. I have a running list…tug, white spot, the blue-eyed momma dog…but I also have a baby and a couple dogs and a partner who says no more animals, and a busy job without enough time to give adequate attention to the more needy dogs that i would love to have.

So this is what I came up with last night after reading…since I can’t adopt more dogs at the moment, what I can do is to send TG regular funds to match what I spend on my current fur babies. Each time I go buy food, treats, toys etc. for my two I will send the equivalent amount as a donation to TG. So it will be like adopting more puppies though the reward will be reading this blog rather than actually having the live waggy tails and bed warmers and bellies to scratch. At the end of the year when I know what my earnings vs cost have been (I am a small businessperson) if there is any extra I’ll send in a bonus. I wish I had a million bucks to put in a trust so that TG could be self-sustaining, and I wish I had more room and more time for more dogs, and I wish I lived en route to the lower mainland so I could provide a place for Stan and Dave to stop and rest on their long delivery trips. But this is what I can do. Maybe Stan and Yvette would consider posting this on the blog as a challenge to see if others out there might consider matching funds with the money they spend on their pets to sponsor the TG dogs.

  7. Great post Stan,

Your mom and all of you are irreplacable, .
Especially when you work so short handed always.
I think you are all overworked always.
Maybe with these last posts others can now get the understanding why things don’t go as planned.
And errors or mistakes are just a given in this kind of family rescue.

I mean even if you are full how can your Mom say No!……. cause she knows that dog will be shot, starve, get beaten and her heart can not handle that thought.

Keep writing, I look forward to your posts each day or when you have the time.

    Sue
    XOXOXO

  8. Great idea Andrea, I will try and do the same. I feel as you do, wish I could help more. I was trying to find out what organizations offer grants and funding for animal rescue but possibly Turtle Gardens has already looked into that….?

  9. Fabulous job posting, Stan. We all know the secret that helps each of you daily….a wonderful sense of humour. An absolute requisite under such heart-breaking circumstances. The job of seeing the dogs and puppies move to their forever homes hopefully helps each of you through another backbreakiing day. I truly don’t know how your Mom does it. She’s just that special! As are the rest of your family. Carry on bravely, Stan, we’ll be pulling for you, your Dad and especially your Mom.
