Turtle Gardens Animal Rescue

There were no shelters of any kind for 250 miles. Twenty years later there is still only Turtle Gardens. We have adopted over 4000 dogs since inception; an average of 227 to 250 dogs per year.

  1. Hello Larry,
They did not go together but they are in perfect homes! Diesel is in Williams Lake sleeping inside , doing chores with his mom and going on long hikes with the horses on weekends! He is very happy. Buddy the golden retriever is living in Telkwa with a repeat adopter – he is spoilt beyond spoiled. He has a very good life! He is making his new mom and dad very happy! They are retired and dad does a lot of fly fishing! Be assured that they are very well and happy!

  2. Hi Yvette,

Just wanted you to know that Laura arrived safe and sound and is fitting in perfectly. She is wonderful with our kids and they are loving her. Thank you so much for such a lovely little dog! You will be receiving the adoption papers on Wednesday.

    All the best!

    Lisa

  3. Dear people at Turtle Gardens
I just read that blog business about the wrong dog going to the vet etc. I have been to TG and I don’t for the life of me know how you can keep it all straight or together at all. So few resources, money and time. Usually we live in the north and I know what a dog’s fate often is if some kind hearted soul does not step in. And you step in hundreds of times a yr. No real harm was ever done, all dogs are fed, watered and cared for. Amen!! I live in Mexico right now and I do go to your site every day so I cannot fault that lady for being too absorbed in the site. She just should lighten up and be glad she has an excellent dog. Our rescue Badi is a real pill who we took along to Mexico and he just spends all his time going out one door and in the other. This wouldn’t matter except I am the one who opens that door at least 150 times a day. He is an old fellow and I swear he just forgets why he went out. I do not know why I love him but I do. Please do not be too discouraged by all this. It sounds like you have a lot of moral and physical support. Just please God let Yvette improve for the sake of the dogs and her family. Gina

  4. Hi, I hear Ewok needs some help…we are a family in Burnaby with a 12.5 year old Jack Russell and a 6 yr old dachshund…my husband, self and 17 year old son. I am home almost all the time. We recently dog-sat a friend’s shitzhu for a month and everyone got along really well…Everyone is pretty mellow except when a fire engine drives by…we have room in our hearts and home to foster this little guy and if things work out well for him would consider adoption…please let us know if he’s still looking for a family to spoil him…

  5. Hey there
I fostered Noah last year and I was wondering how he is doing? Is he still with you?
    Holly in Victoria

  6. Hello Holly,
Noah and his sister Georgia are both at Turtle Gardens. Noah is doing well tho he is still wary of humans, he does follow me around. He may never be adoptable but he sure has become a gorgeous fellow! He has a lot of admirers.

  7. Hi, Yvette.
My son, Nick, and i are awaiting “Llasa,” Pepsi’s puppy, with great anticipation. My husband is madly cycling from Llasa, Tibet, to Kathmandu, Nepal, as we write, hence the name we chose for the puppy. We have kennel, bed, food dishes and food ready. We have a new and very secure fence surrounding a pleasant back yard waiting. We have dog toys; we’ve been watching Cesar Milan CDs to get ready for training (ourselves as much as the puppy). Now, we just hope the planned trip down this Saturday/Sunday goes smoothly. We are SO ready! Thanks for the obviously astounding work you all do to make animal’s lives better. Cynthia in North Vancouver.

  8. Hello Yvette, I sent an email application regarding Amigo. Undoubtedly you are very busy, but I was just wondering if my application had been received, and/or if Amigo had found a home or not? Thanks so much for your time! Haley

  13. Hi Yvette,
I am the person that phoned you this morning about the dog food from Prince George. There is a few more bags of food than I was originally told. 33 (18 kg) bags of dog food, 12 (8kg) bags of cat food and 12 (4kg) bags of cat food. Is it still okay to bring it all to you on Monday?
A little birdie also told me that you are a very big coffee fan. Do you like Starbucks and do you want beans or ground coffee?
Thanks and good luck with your tests in Vancouver.
    Tracy

  14. Hello Tracy,
All of it will be used and truly appreciated. Linda has 30 cats and really can use the cat food. I love Starbucks either ground or beans – I use ground early morning ( I am an early riser!!) and then go into the summer kitchen when the guys are up and grind fresh then. Thank you so much for calling me. Dave will be waiting for you Monday. Take care, Yvette

  15. thank you for all that everyone does. I was wondering if you were aware of the person that has dogs tied to different places around his property just North of Dease Lake? I remeber a lot of junk, the cabin was on the shores of a small lake, when I seen it he had 4 dogs tied to different areas. This was around 1993. Let me know, if you’ve heard of this. Thanks

  16. Hi Yvette,
I hope your appointments in Vancouver are going well and you have a safe journey home to Turtle Gardens.
My husband and I dropped off some dog and cat food at Turtle Gardens yesterday and were so happy to meet Dave and his helpers. Knowing that Dave is trying to work on your home and fencing, we tried not to stay too long and take up valuable time. My husband was also trying to get me out or there before I filled up our truck with new friends (ie DOGS!!!)
Yvette, I must tell you how impressed we were with the results you achieve considering the huge needs in your area and your limited resources. We knew that Topley was a beautiful little place having passed through it on our way to Smithers or Prince Rupert. Stopping at Turtle Gardens really reinforced just how islolated you are from a large population, or any population, that could help you with volunteers or fundraising. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for all the wonderful dogs that you save from neglect, abandonment, abuse and starvation. Your work is truly inspirational!!! Thank you!!!!
    Tracy

  19. I am looking for a female compagin who is Great with kids and other dogs and must be spayed for our 7 year old german shepard/husky named buddy needs a friend. He loves the great outdoors and swimming. We live in a rural area and love to be outdoors as much as we can. We live in Telkwa, and own our own house that is fenced on half an acre. We are a young couple with a 5 month old daughter, we would like a puppy that will be grown into a good size dog. We would like to come back on Sunday, and talk to you more and maybe adopted a puppy that day:)

  28. Hi, a few months ago, you received a small female black lab of sorts. She was very sweet and energetic but I could not take her in because I had another stray with me at the time. Anyways, I just wanted to see if she had been adopted. She needs a loving home with children and dogs! Hoping she was able to find that already. If you get a chance, I would love to know.
