Who are the Friends of Turtle Gardens? We are a group of supporters living in the lower mainland who have adopted dogs from Turtle Gardens Animal Rescue Society. Our lives have been enriched with our new family members, and by following the TG daily blog.

By getting to know Yvette and Dave Labatte, we felt we could do ‘more’. They unselfishly have dedicated their lives to saving the dogs of the north and we can’t imagine what would’ve happened to our precious dogs if there were no Turtle Gardens. The TG blog is filled with testimonials about how lucky these ‘rescue dogs’ have turned out to be. The lucky ones end up at TG and the healing process begins. Yvette has an incredible way with dogs – her heart heals their souls. We believe TG is truely the “little shelter with heart”.

With all the challenges and adversities TG faces, it is apparent that Yvette is overwelmed with things to do in Topley. Besides looking after too many dogs, there’s also writing the daily blog, dealing with funding, banking, writing reciepts, answering dozens of phone calls and emails. The majority of adoptiing families are in the lower mainland and Vancouver Island. It seems to make sense that here is the base of most fundraising activities. Friends Of Turtle Gardens was incorporated in early 2010 to help relieve Yvettte of some of the paperwork so she can spend more time with dogs, doing what she does best!

We realize we are to far away from Topley to help with the day to day operations of the shelter but we can contribute in other ways. Some of which may include organizing fundraising events, accepting donations, issuing receipts, fulfilling the requirements of Canada Revenue Agency, managing assets such as bank accounts, stock portfolios, trust and endowments, and dispersing funds as deemed appropriate to maximize the benefit of dogs in need. We understand that many people will prefer to donate directly to TG, the Burns Lake Vet Clinic or online with Canada Helps. With all the dogs and their adoptive families ‘down south’, we thought it would make sense to have a supporting organization based here in southern B.C.
