Where is the TG Bus Right Now?

Filed under: Turtle Gardens Diary — blog @ 5:39 pm

Please note that this is a work in progress, and as such it may break occasionally until all the kinks are worked out.  Ain’t technology great.

Below are the last 25 gps tracks from Turtle Gardens new Spot Communicator. When the TG bus is on the move it quite often passes through areas without cell reception (well a lot of where it travels actually) so in order to keep an eye on the boys Yvette was given this cool piece of technology.

When the boys are traveling their little toy will upload it’s current GPS location every 20 minutes via satellite, which is then viewable on this map below (we scrape the raw GPS data off the findmespot site).

There are a lot of moving parts (figuratively speaking) to make this map happen, so don’t be suprised if occasionally it’s blank or just plain wrong.

Over the next couple of weeks time permitting I (buggyd) will be adding some more features for Yvette.

  • Having a message automatically displayed on the blog page when the TG bus is on the move
  • A running count of how many km the bus travels
  • How fast Stan is driving
  • Anything else that might be interesting with this toy, please feel free to comment on this page if you have an idea.

Please note that the total km count started on Wed Feb 27 19:30 since that was the earliest tracking data available when I started archiving it.  Click on the van to see the total.

  1. I have had great intentions since adopting and can’t express enough appreciation for the joy our dog has brought to us. His name is Diggery and he is the happiest little guy with a personality like no other. I have owned dogs all my life-big, little and in-between but this little guy is super. I almost lost him on the second day he came here. Thinking he could do with a walk, I attached the leash to his collar and out we went. Ten steps later he had pulled his head through the collar and was off on a wild run. He headed for a busy street and almost gave me a heart attack trying to catch him. Luckily, some ladies stopped their car and several more cars and he eventually made his way back to me. Wow, what a lesson that was. I bought a nice soft harness and he is great with it. Bought him a choke chain and he coward in a corner and froze. Obviously, I have now learned my lesson and stick to the harness. I would love to know a little more about his first year as I surmise he had been tied up and therefor has bad memories of collars. He is the most lovable little creature and responds to affection from everyone. My children and grandkids now visit more frequently just to play with Diggery. He does have a problem with cats (there are plenty of them around here)but since that is his problem he will have to somehow learn from them. He has boundless energy and the vet says he is in A1 shape. I will send some pictures but just wanted you to know how grateful we are that he came into our lives. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You are wonderful people doing wonderful work. Best wishes, Norma
